Valentine's Day Excursions at the Art Nouveau Museum

Every February, the Riga Art Nouveau Centre invites visitors to celebrate Valentine's Day, reminding them of the traditions of this holiday during the Art Nouveau era and allowing them to explore the museum's collection. This year, residents and guests of Riga will also have the opportunity to learn about the traditions of Valentine's Day and admire a collection of romantic postcards. 

On February 14th at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM, visitors will not only be enchanted by the adorned museum interior and exquisite floral arrangements but will also have the chance to learn about the expressive language of stamps guided by a curator. It turns out that the placement of stamps on an envelope without words can reveal the most subtle secrets.

Meteņi - the midpoint between Christmas and Easter

It is believed that for ancient Latvians, the year began with Meteņi, which is the midpoint between Christmas and Easter. The timing of Meteņi celebrations varies - in the past, it was celebrated on February 6th, but nowadays it is celebrated seven weeks before Easter. According to Christian traditions, Meteņi Eve falls on Saturday, Meteņi on Sunday, and Ash Wednesday on Monday.

Jelgava hosted the 25th International Ice Sculpture Festival

From February 2nd to 4th, the 25th anniversary International Ice Sculpture Festival took place in Jelgava – on Jānis Čakste Boulevard and Pasta Island. The festival featured 45 competition sculptures, and in total, more than 60 ice objects were on display.

The Sigulda cable car is closed in January and February.

From January 22, 2024, to February 29, 2024, technical work and improvements are planned for the Sigulda cable car, therefore the tourist attraction will be closed to visitors during this time.

The 25th International Ice Sculpture Festival in Jelgava

From February 2nd to 4th, the 25th anniversary International Ice Sculpture Festival will take place in Jelgava – on Jānis Čakste Boulevard and Pasta Island. This year, 32 professional sculptors from 11 countries – Ukraine, Indonesia, Argentina, Latvia, the Netherlands, Lithuania, Estonia, Czech Republic, Mongolia, United Kingdom, and Spain – will showcase their unique perspectives on global treasures through ice sculpture. The festival will feature 45 competition sculptures, with a total of over 60 ice objects on display.
